A minimis incipe
The Association was formed on 1 July 1927, the name reflecting its beginnings within “Ealing Priory School” (as St Benedict’s, Ealing was known at the time of the Association’s inauguration). Without explanation, the term “Old Priorians” is not immediately evident to those now at the School as past pupils from its first century.
The Annual General Meeting of the Old Priorian Association, which convened in July 2001, instructed an augmented Council to draw up a Business Plan for the development of the Association in the second century of the School. Council had long since concluded that fundamental changes would be necessary to ensure the survival of the Association and the review has now displayed a factual basis for that sentiment. Council, together with dedicated working groups of like-minded volunteers, met several times to ensure that a plan would be ready at the end of 2001.
The Association had joined the Association of Representatives of Past Pupils (AROPS) of Independent Schools in 1999. By sheer coincidence, a major theme of the 2001 AROPS Annual Conference was a report of the experience of fifty past pupils’ organisations and their membership fees. That report informed Council during their deliberations; the results of which were set out in the OPA Business Plan.
